Monique, You have a powerful story. Why don’t you give us some details about you and introduce us to your story. How did you get to where you are today? 

I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for my humble beginnings. I moved from Sacramento to Los Angeles with the dream of becoming a Hollywood actress. I did absolutely nothing to pursue that dream, so I worked as a legal secretary. I knew that I didn’t want to be a legal secretary for the rest of my life, so I eventually started freelancing as an international wedding makeup artist and eyebrow specialist. When I participated in community outreach through my church at the time, it gave me the idea of giving back to the community with my talent. So in 2003, I obtained my Esthetician license for the sole purpose of volunteering for the American Cancer Society’s “Look Good, Feel Better” program. Since then, I have been trained and certified in Oncology Esthetics; become a licensed Cosmetologist and Manicurist and am a certified Elleebana Lash Lift trainer for Los Angeles County. In response to Covid-19, I now have a one-of-a-kind mobile beauty studio.

Monique, I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Many times I’ve had to overcome the challenges of fear and apprehension stopping me from advancing in my career.. But I pray about it, take courage and move forward anyway. This is the same approach I took during the Covid-19 pandemic. I didn’t want the fear of the pandemic to stop me from moving forward in my career.

Let’s talk about the work you do. What makes you good at what you do?

I’m good at what I do because I’m always learning, growing, and striving to do what’s best for my business so I can serve others with their beauty needs. The COVID-19 pandemic forced many beauty professionals to reduce their hours or close indefinitely. But I decided to pivot by changing the model of my business by delivering beauty services to my client’s home without going into the home. I did this by converting a Ford Transit van into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind mobile beauty studio. It is equipped with ventilation windows, a fan, HAC, and a private bathroom, complete with a toilet and sink. I also use a UVC light that kills bacteria, viruses, allergens, and mold efficiently.

Business women and moms now working from home with limited time for beauty treatments love the convenience of at home beauty services such as lash extensions and lifts, eyebrow tweezing, facials, makeup and hair styling.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Don’t give up on your dream. Don’t give anyone the power to take your dreams for a better life and a brighter future. My mantra is: “when you take an interest in yourself, others will find you interesting.”

What’s next for you Monique?

I’m now writing a book to help others in my industry to accomplish a lot with less to achieve more.
