Amore Beauté started as a hobby and passion. Puja Rai, had lived and worked in Japan for a decade. During this time, she developed an immense appreciation for some traditional Japanese art forms. During dinner with one of the families in Kobe, Japan, she realized that there is a need to combine some sparkle with traditional Japanese forms and bring these to home décor. The existing options could not be customized as per her needs and also were too expensive. There clearly was a business opportunity. Amore Beauté was born!
Puja made up her mind to tap into this opportunity. As a proof of concept, she did her beadwork and embroidery by herself and shared these with her friends in Japan, the US, and Singapore. Her first customer was a South African lady (living in Japan). This was the very beginning of Amore Beauté

- Choose from available designs, color, embroidery style or lining option. Amore Beauté can also work on completely new design options for you.
- For curtains, you can choose from various optional privacy liners, black out lining or multi-layered fabric

Puja, I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
I am not a design expert or textile expert by formal training. My work has been a labor of love and passion. On a positive note, my lack of formal training allows me experiment with forms and fabrics that many traditional experts may balk at.
Another one that comes to mind is running my business together with being a full-time mom. Both babies (work and my child) require more than 100%. Some days, I multitask like crazy. Technology has been a huge help – I love Siri!
Let’s talk about the work you do Puja. What makes you good at what you do?
My vision is to bring underpriced, custom luxury décor to every home and business (restaurants, Airbnb hosts, boutique hotels, florists, cafes etc).
Good decor is my passion! And my space is my heaven. When I look at architecture, paintings or even a beautiful flower in nature, I am always thinking about how I can bring this to life in home or business décor. I like to weave together different styles, forms and fabrics. It shows in the work I do.
My other passion is customer satisfaction. The customer is my only boss! And my boss should not have to pay for any non-value added costs/expenditures. I am always looking for ways to reduce waste and cut middlemen.
Puja, what’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find the perfect home décor ?
Follow your heart and create space that inspires you; that feels good to you. I love custom décor and truly believe in the transformational power of custom décor. Start with a few anchor pieces – it can be curtains, soft quilt or a silk throw. Let it reflect what you want and not what is available.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you Puja?
For me, success means a happy customer who loves the curtains or quilts I create for her! I am not in the business of developing a new cancer drug; or sending people to Mars. I am in a simple business of making people’s life a little bit brighter and happier.
What’s next for you Puja?
I am working on launching 300tc ultra soft bedding (including embroidered duvet cover) in pure cotton. I am also partnering with another start up to test if I can use their EPA approved anti-viral product on my curtains, quilts or sheets. Lots of exciting stuff on the horizon!
