Kindkarma.com is minority-owned, women-owned and women-operated. This is a family business and a proud space where three generations of women (ranging from 12 yrs to 70 yrs) have come together to create a world we want to live in. A diverse, inclusive, equal and badass world – one where everyone is seen and heard, one where everyone takes up space and uses their voice even if it shakes.

Meet founder of Kind Karma Nashita Pagdiwalla Dastur. Nashita, it is such an honor to interview you today.

You have a powerful story Nashita. Why don’t you give us some details about you and introduce us to your story. How did you get to where you are today?

I am a first generation immigrant; born and raised in India. I moved to Sydney, Australia as a teenager; then moved to Irvine, California in my mid-twenties.  I have been married to a wonderful man for 17 years now, and we have two lovely, teen daughters, and two amazing doggie sons!
Having lived around the world and among different cultures, I have come to understand just how similar we all are in regards to wanting a better tomorrow for our children. As a person of color, a first-generation immigrant and a mother, Social Inequities break my heart. My work permeates all facets of my life – I love being a Social justice advocate and I do it 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. I am on the board of OC Pride and Volunteer Network of OC (OC= Orange County) and I work on several committees for Social Justice and Racial Equity in Southern California.

Nashita, I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

I suffer from depression and anxiety. The anxiety has worsened since Covid and the lockdown. Its something I have dealt with for decades now, and am open about it in an effort to normalize the stigma it carries. Some days I am fine, and some days I’m not, and loving all of me, even the unlovable parts, is something I work on every single day. My work is very healing and raising money for my causes gives me peace.

Nashita Let’s talk about the work you do and Kind Karma. What makes you good at what you do?

I am good at making connections with people. I honestly believe in my heart that we are more similar than we are different, and this fuels all my interactions every single day. Kind Karma was born out of the realization that we are all capable of small kind actions, on a consistent basis. We offer a well curated selection of safe and affordable products for use around the house. We have taken the upmost care in sourcing our products from minority vendors across the United States. At Kind Karma, giving back is not something we do one day of the year like other companies. Giving back is the premise our company was founded upon, its who we are and what we do – every single day.

What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Do what lights up your soul. Anything less is a complete waste of time!

Speaking of success Nashita, what does the word mean to you?

Success is being able to have choices. And everyone should have this ability. The truth is sadly only a few are given this opportunity. I want to change this in my own small way. This is exactly why Social Justice fuels me on a daily basis.

What’s next for you Nashita?

Continuing my work, one day at a time, with vulnerability and passion! I want to normalize giving back to our underrepresented communities. It does not have to be a grandiose monthly donation of $5000 . It can be a small decision of choosing to buy a coffee mug or a tote (items we use on a daily basis) from a company that is socially responsible. Also where items are sourced consciously, and where diversity and inclusivity are valued and celebrated. In other words, kind actions or Kind Karmas need not be once in a while events. They can be small daily choices (reflected in the products we use around our home) which in turn can help cultivate a spirit of kindness and generosity towards our underrepresented communities.

We all use products every single day, why not help others while using cool, safe, affordable products around our homes?! With Kind Karma, we’ve made it easy to do just that!
